ART QUOTE OF THE DAY

Always make the audience suffer as much as possible - ALFRED HITCHCOCK

I don't need to expand on that!

dear srini...

hahahah! am still on the planet. we opened with parrots' lies tonight. it was a scream. 6 paid audience and a bunch of our landing stagers. but the performance itself went zip... like that. what hitchcock meant was totally so off target from what you and anand understood is the feeling. remember hitchcock was a mystery thriller master. so, by torture he meant that the audience should be soooo on the seat edge biting nails as to what is going to happen and when... this waiting in anxiety is really torture. and without that there is no suspense!

antick... yeah you more than read it! hajxslah... that laf enuf?

dear oh dear anand... my eternal wise president of the blogosphere. it's like hamlet says to gertrude his mother: I am cruel only to be kind! Read my response to Srini above. Without anxiety and torture of the seat edge variety, there is no suspense in a murder mystery. so does the Lord! After all he let Dharma suffer till he was left alone as the Pandavas fell one by one on their final journey back to becoming the various elements of the God's paraphrenalia. And even there when he went to Heaven upon Indra's invite, he was tortured because he saw all the Kauravas... no Pandavas! And he chose to travel further to explore hell even if it was for half hour... to be aghast to find the other pandavas there in the mosh pit... screaming shadows of ghosts of past... something like an experience Odysseus had when he went to seek the advise of Tiresias in the netherworld, where he met his mother's ghost! And then when he was finally tested about his loyalty to his kith and kin... only then was he granted eternal rest in heaven! Sometimes we need to suffer before we can savour the fruits!

Abhinav! When you dropping by for Parrots? You have heard about the famous KK-Bitch sessions. You can see now in real time on stage with the local names being irreverently thrown about... all in good spirit of course!

i dont know anything abotu the KK bitch sessions, but i think its fairly self explanatory, and admittedly, the prospect is quite appealing! :D

great show kk.. enjoyed it thoroughly.
btw did u deliberately look for a first time actor to do the role of the first time actor? if yes, great idea!

Abhinav

thanks for coming and am glad you enjoyed it. though our audience footfall was way too low even by our own standards, am glad ppl all uniformly liked it. only 7 ppl walked out of the show. not because they were bored, but they were disgusted. but they were warned about expletives and the subject. am also happy they walked out because i want to impact people with strong polarised reactions. i don't like polite "well dones". Either you love me or hate me and the same with my work. we need to leave an impression on people. and am glad the work did that.

vis-a-vis varun - it was part logic part magic. actually krishna who did sound and varun were double cast and varun to be carefully initiated to theatre through matinees where people who come would be by choice and hence supportive of theatre and it won't be an ordeal for him. but it turned out he had to do all shows himself. also i wanted him to do this role because this would be the last how he does in chennai as he's leaving town sunday. and i prefer to work with unhoned and new energy all the time. i prefer to work with unconditioned mind always. also i don't work beyond masquerade artistically with actors. hence the choice. it is the same for the rest of the season and the rest of the season is going to be even more morbid, but more gregarious!
